An absolute racing legend will make an appearance during the 31st edition of InterClassics Maastricht, which will be held from Thursday 15 through Sunday 18 January 2026 at MECC Maastricht: the Mazda 787B. Achieving worldwide fame after its historic victory at the 1991 24-hour Le Mans race, the iconic Japanese race car is coming to Maastricht from the Le Mans Museum specially for the themed exhibition, Legends of the Rising Sun.

The arrival of the Mazda 787B marks the addition of a unique and international prized specimen to the exhibition at InterClassics, dedicated entirely to Japanese car history this year. The 787B ranks as one of the most groundbreaking race cars of all time and is the first Japanese car to win the legendary 24-hour Le Mans race. F1 driver Johnny Herbert was one of three drivers, along with Volker Weidler and Bertrand Gachot, to win the 1991 24-hour Le Mans race in the iconic Mazda 787B. Due to its rich racing history, it is nearly impossible to determine the value of the 787B. The last time a comparable car was sold was in 2017, at a price of €1.5 million. The car could fetch almost double that amount today. However, this particular car is not for sale and will return to the Le Mans Museum’s permanent collection after the event.

Exhibition manager Erik Panis explains: ‘The Mazda 787B is the ultimate symbol of Japanese innovation and daring. This car is a perfect example of what Legends of the Rising Sun stands for: pushing boundaries, challenging conventional wisdom and still becoming one of the world’s best. The fact that this car is being specially brought to Maastricht from the Le Mans Museum makes the exhibition particularly unique.’

The Mazda 787B is one of around 20 historical prized specimens that will be on display in the themed exhibition, Legends of the Rising Sun. In addition, InterClassics Maastricht will once again present around 800 classic cars, youngtimers and supercars on over 35,000 square metres of show floor space. A new feature is the Supercar Foyer: a separate area where new and nearly new super- and hypercars will be offered for sale. The classic car event attracts over 40,000 buyers and enthusiasts annually.
