De Silver Ghost die vanaf 1906 door Rolls-Royce werd gebouwd,
was zijn tijd ver vooruit. De auto beschikte over de beste techniek,
was bijzonder betrouwbaar en de auto had bovendien nauwelijks
onderhoud nodig. Binnen de kortste keren had de Rolls-Royce de
reputatie van beste auto ter wereld. Begonnen als 40/50 HP had
Rolls-Royce-manager Claude Johnson voor de Olympia autosalon van 1906 één exemplaar zilverkleurig laten uitvoeren en gaf het de naam Silver Ghost, een verwijzing naar de fluisterstille motor. Al snel zouden alle exemplaren van dit model de fabriek onder deze modelnaam gaan verlaten. Pas in 1925 werd de productie na 8.416 verkochte exemplaren beëindigd.

Built by Rolls-Royce starting in 1906, the Silver Ghost was way ahead of its time. Equipped with the best technology, the car was extremely reliable, and also required very little maintenance. In no time, this Rolls-Royce earned the reputation of being the best car in the world. Starting out as a 40/50 hp, Rolls-Royce manager Claude Johnson had one car finished in silver for the 1906 Olympia motor show and named it Silver Ghost, a reference to its very quiet engine. It didn’t take long before all this model’s cars left the factory under this name. Production didn’t end until 1925, by which time 8,416 units had been sold.
