In 1951 was er op de autosalon van Parijs een prachtige, luxueuze
Gran Turismo te zien, de Pegaso Z-102. De auto was het geesteskind van Wifredo Ricart (1897-1974), directeur van vrachtwagenfabrikant Pegaso. Omdat de auto enkel als prestigeobject zou fungeren, geen productiemodel zou worden en geen winst hoefde te realiseren, kon alles uit de kast worden gehaald. Zo kreeg de auto een zelfdragend platformchassis, onafhankelijke wielophanging en een De Dionachteras. Voorzien van een aluminium 2,5-liter V8-motor met 2.472 cc en 165 pk bedroeg de topsnelheid 200 km/h. De auto zou in verschillende gedaantes verschijnen. Waren de eerste exemplaren wat
ouderwets vormgegeven, Saoutchik ontwierp een uitbundige coupé en cabriolet en ook van Touring verschenen er prachtige carrosserieën waarvan de laatste ‘Thrill’ werd genoemd

In 1951, Wifredo Ricart presented a beautiful, luxurious Gran Turismo, the Pegaso Z-102, at the Paris Motor Show. The lorry manufacturer dreamed of producing its own sports car, not only to show what its factory was capable of, but also to make it the calling card of Spanish workmanship.

The self-supporting platform chassis was equipped with an aluminium 2.5-litre V8 engine with 2,472 cc and 165 hp. While the initial models featured classic lines, and Saoutchik had designed a lavish coupé and convertible, Touring also produced beautiful models including the Touring Superleggera with its superlight tube frame, designed by Bianchi Anderloni. Apart from its lightweight construction with small-diameter tubes, the Superleggera construction system gave it great flexibility, allowing Touring to quickly build innovative body shapes, including those made by Pegaso.
