Deze Lotus 77 John Player Special is misschien wel 1 van de mooiste F1 auto’s ooit gemaakt. Ontworpen door Clive Chapman, Geof Aldridge en Martin Ogilvie voor het seizoen van 1976.

De wagen had de onfortuinlijke taak om de weinig succesvolle lotus 76 op te volgen. De wagen had een nieuw en lichter monocoque chassis en een verbeterd aerodynamica. Ook de voortrein was nieuw en was daardoor gemakkelijker instelbaar naargelang het circuit.

In het begin van seizoen was de wagen nog niet 100% op punt maar halverwege hadden Mario Andretti en Gunnar Nilsson heel hard gewerkt en werden de resultaten beter. Ook door de wijzigingen aangebracht tijdens het seizoen door Tony Southgate van Shadow, ingehuurd door Colin Chapman

Dit tentoongesteld exemplaar was de auto van Gunnar Nilsson en heeft ermee gereden op Zandvoort. Hij werd in het seizoen van 1976 10de in het eindklassement.

Heeft de race moeten staken in de 10de ronde na een ongeluk. Mario Andretti daarentegen finishte wel en werd 3^de.

This Lotus 77 John Player Special is perhaps 1 of the most beautiful F1 cars ever made. Designed by Clive Chapman, Geof Aldridge and Martin Ogilvie for the 1976 season.

The car had the unfortunate task of succeeding the unsuccessful Lotus 76. The car had a new and lighter monocoque chassis and improved aerodynamics. The front suspension was also new, making it easier to adjust according to the track.

At the beginning of the season, the car was not 100% on point, but halfway through, Mario Andretti and Gunnar Nilsson had worked very hard and the results improved. Also due to changes made during the season by Tony Southgate of Shadow, hired by Colin Chapman

This one on display was Gunnar Nilsson’s car and drove it at Zandvoort. He finished 10th in the final standings in the 1976 season.

Had to abandon the race on the 10th lap after an accident. Mario Andretti, on the other hand, did finish and was 3rd.

La voiture avait la malheureuse tâche de succéder à la Lotus 76, qui n’a pas eu de succès. La voiture avait un nouveau châssis monocoque plus léger et un aérodynamisme amélioré. La suspension avant était également nouvelle, ce qui permettait de l’ajuster plus facilement en fonction de la piste.

Au début de la saison, la voiture n’était pas à 100% au point, mais à mi-parcours, Mario Andretti et Gunnar Nilsson ont travaillé très dur et les résultats se sont améliorés. Grâce aussi aux modifications apportées en cours de saison par Tony Southgate de Shadow, engagé par Colin Chapman.

Cette voiture exposée était celle de Gunnar Nilsson, qui l’a pilotée à Zandvoort. Il a terminé 10e au classement final de la saison 1976.

Il a dû abandonner la course au 10e tour après un accident. Mario Andretti, par contre, a terminé et a été 3ème.
