De Aston Martin DB4 was bij zijn introductie op de Autosalon van Parijs in oktober 1958 een state-of-the-art Gran Turismo die conceptueel en technisch wezenlijk verschilde van zijn
voorganger, de DB2-Mark III. Een stijlvolle sportieveling, met een nieuwe motor, een nieuw chassis en rondom schijfremmen. Met de Aston Martin DB4 GT kwam de Britse fabrikant
in 1959 met de overtreffende trap. De wielbasis was 13 centimeter ingekort, er was lichter aluminium gebruikt en de uitrusting was beperkt ten behoeve van gewichtsbesparing. Hogere compressie, een cilinderkop met twaalf bougies en drie 45DCO Webercarburateurs vergrootten het vermogen tot 331 pk. De GT had topsnelheid van 245 km/h en accelereerde in 6,4 seconden van nul tot honderd kilometer per uur. De Silverstone Trophy was met Stirling Moss aan het stuur het eerste optreden van de DB4 GT. De auto won met overmacht van Jaguar.

At the time of its introduction at the Paris Motor Show in October 1958, the Aston Martin DB4 was a state-of-the-art Gran Turismo that differed substantially, both in concept and engineering, to its predecessor, the DB2-Mark III. It was a stylish sports car with a new engine, new chassis and disc brakes all around.

In 1959, the British manufacturer really outdid itself with the Aston Martin DB4 GT. The wheelbase had been shortened by 13 inches, lighter aluminium was used, and the extras had been limited in the interest of cutting down on weight. Higher compression, a cylinder head with twelve spark plugs and three 45DCO Weber carburettors boosted the power to 331 hp. The GT had a top speed of 245 km/h and an acceleration of zero to 100 km/hour in 6.4 seconds. With Stirling Moss at the wheel, the Silverstone Trophy race marked the first appearance of the DB4 GT. The car won, beating Jaguar.
