De Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB, geïntroduceerd in 1959, wordt gezien als een van de meest succesvolle GT-racers ooit. Met een verkort chassis van 2.400 mm (Short Wheel Base), een lichtgewicht van 957 kg en een krachtige V12-motor tot 280 pk, was de SWB uitzonderlijk wendbaar en snel. Ontworpen door Giotto Bizzarrini, Carlo Chiti en Mauro Forghieri, was het de eerste Ferrari GT met schijfremmen, wat de prestaties naar een nieuw niveau tilde.

De SWB excelleerde op het circuit en won onder meer de Tour de France Automobile in 1960, 1961 en 1962. Dit specifieke exemplaar, geleverd in 1960, is extra bijzonder vanwege zijn originele kleur Grigio Fumo en het bruine lederen interieur. Na enkele jaren in Amerika, een rode overspuiting en een verblijf in een Limburgse privécollectie, is de auto inmiddels zorgvuldig gerestaureerd naar zijn originele grijze kleur.

Met zijn combinatie van elegantie, prestaties en historie wordt de SWB nog steeds bewonderd. Sports Car International plaatste hem op de zevende plek van beste sportauto’s uit de jaren ’60, en Motor Trend Classic riep hem uit tot een van de grootste Ferrari’s aller tijden. Een tijdloze klassieker die zijn iconische status verdient.

Introduced in 1959, the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB is regarded as one of the most successful GT racers of all time. With a shortened 2,400 mm wheelbase (Short Wheel Base), a lightweight frame of 957 kg, and a powerful V12 engine delivering up to 280 hp, the SWB was exceptionally agile and fast. Designed by Giotto Bizzarrini, Carlo Chiti, and Mauro Forghieri, it was the first Ferrari GT equipped with disc brakes, elevating its performance to new heights.

The SWB excelled on the circuit, winning the Tour de France Automobile in 1960, 1961, and 1962. This particular example, delivered in 1960, stands out due to its original Grigio Fumo color and brown leather interior. After spending years in America, being repainted red, and residing in a private collection in Limburg, the car has now been meticulously restored to its original grey color.

With its combination of elegance, performance, and history, the SWB continues to be admired. Sports Car International ranked it seventh among the best sports cars of the 1960s, and Motor Trend Classic named it one of the greatest Ferraris of all time. A timeless classic that has rightfully earned its iconic status.
